Handyman in Cordova, TN

Cordova covers the eastern edge of the Memphis area, roughly bounded by Whitten Road on the west, the Wolf River on the south, I-40 on the north and Pisgah Road on the east. It started as a small farming village and railroad stop in the 1800s, with the old depot still standing on Macon Road, but almost all of today's Cordova was built from the late 1980s onward as subdivisions filled in around Germantown Parkway. Much of the area has been annexed into Memphis in stages, while some sections remain unincorporated Shelby County. The housing is mostly 1990s and 2000s two-story brick and vinyl homes, plus a lot of apartment communities and townhomes along the Parkway. These houses are younger than Midtown's, but at twenty-five to thirty-five years old they're hitting a new round of maintenance: builder-grade faucets and fixtures wearing out, first-generation fences and gates failing, drywall seams and nail pops showing up, and interiors that owners want to repaint and update.

Germantown Parkway is the main road through Cordova, lined with shopping, restaurants and offices, and Wolfchase Galleria sits near its northern end by I-40. Shelby Farms Park, one of the largest urban parks in the country, sits along Cordova's western edge with its lakes, trails and the Greenline running back toward Midtown. Old Cordova around Macon and Sanga Roads still has a small-town feel with its historic community center and depot, and Houston Levee Road marks the newer growth to the east. Neighborhoods are a mix of curving subdivisions with HOAs, townhome communities and large apartment complexes. Lots are moderate, trees are younger than in East Memphis but growing fast, and most homes have two-car garages, fenced back yards and a patio or small deck.

Jobs we handle a lot around Cordova

Cordova jobs reflect a younger housing stock that's now settling in. We mount TVs in great rooms and bedrooms, assemble furniture and gym equipment for new move-ins, replace builder-grade light fixtures and fans with something nicer, and repaint rooms that still wear the original flat beige. Plumbing parts from the 1990s are wearing out, so faucets, toilet fill valves and supply lines are a steady call. Outside, first-generation wood fences are reaching the end of their posts, gates sag, and gutters under fast-growing trees need regular cleaning. Townhome and condo owners often call us for punch lists that the HOA doesn't cover, like interior doors, closet systems and small drywall repairs.

Questions we hear in Cordova

Do you serve all of Cordova, including the unincorporated parts?

Yes. Whether your address is inside Memphis city limits or in unincorporated Shelby County, we cover it. It doesn't change how we price or schedule the work. Just give us the street and we'll get you on the calendar.

Can you mount a TV over the fireplace in my two-story living room?

Yes, that's one of the most common Cordova requests. Many 1990s and 2000s homes here have a tall great room with the fireplace as the focal point. We check the chimney chase for studs or masonry, confirm the mantel can handle the heat and the viewing angle, and mount the TV on the right bracket. We can run cables inside the wall where it's safe to do so or use a clean paintable cover where it isn't.

I just moved into an apartment off Germantown Parkway — can you help set it up?

Yes. We assemble beds, desks and dressers, hang mirrors and art, mount TVs where the lease allows, and install curtain rods and blinds. If your complex has rules about wall anchors or mounting, check with the office first, and we'll work within whatever they allow and patch the holes neatly when you move out.

My builder-grade faucets are starting to drip — repair or replace?

In most Cordova homes from the 1990s and early 2000s, replacement is the better value. The original faucets were usually entry-level models, and replacement cartridges for them can be hard to find or cost nearly as much as a new faucet. We'll look at what you have, tell you honestly whether a cartridge or washer will do the job, and if not, install a new faucet with fresh supply lines and check the shutoff valves under the sink while we're there.
